MARIE BOUTEILLON
Educator, Coach & Consultant
I studied at McGill University and then moved to Shanghai upon graduation. I began teaching in China and was very fortunate to work in an international school that exposed me to pedagogical approaches from around the world. I eventually applied to Columbia University’s Teachers College for the Master’s in Bilingual Education.
When I'm not on the road, I invest my time and energy in giving my child the gift of bilingualism. Over the last few years, I have shared advice with many aspiring multilingual families in an effort to spread the Bilingual Revolution. I live with my husband and daughter in Decatur, GA.
I was born in France and immigrated to the United States with my family when I was seven years old. Like so many English learners, I learned English through the sink or swim method. Now an adult, I am fluent in French and English and proficient in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese.
In 2007, I founded the first French dual language program in a New York City public school, at PS 58 The Carroll School. PS 58 followed the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. I adapted Lucy Calkins’ balanced literacy framework for dual language. The school won several awards and I was knighted Chevalier des Palmes académiques, the highest award granted to educators by the French Ministry of Education. I began consulting with schools nationwide in 2009.
